Our new Drum Bag Kits are designed for a workshop. We have included very clear instructions, sinew, glovers needle, small piece of thick moose to make a thimble and all the leather cut to size and appropriate shape. We have also included instructions so that people can personalize their bags with either fringe or left as a ‘live edge’.

Introducing the Tribal Spirit Moose leather Drum Bag Kit. For workshops or as a ‘do it yourself’ project.

Everything included (with detailed instructions) to make your own moose leather drum bag.

One of the most common questions we receive is about how to best care for hand drums. The primary challenge for any natural hide hand drum is humidity. In dry weather the hide dries, tightens up and the tone gets higher…..and in humid/wet situations, hide absorbs moisture, gets larger and the tone goes down. The extremes are frustrating for drum carriers….”My drum is too high in tone in winter when we are heating our houses, or goes flat in high humidity.” Leather is an amazing barrier that blocks the movement of most humidity. A drum that lives inside a bag will have less extremes of tone, more even. On a wet rainy night, you can pull your drum out of a leather bag and boom, it sounds perfect!! The same goes with dry weather….a leather bag will protect a drum from getting tiny or worse yet cracking.

  I buy all the hide and fur I use for making moccasins from Tribal Spirit.  The quality is  amazing, and the variety is much appreciated.  I also really love the traditional medicines they have available.
